Hikaru Nakamura beats Magnus Carlsen in Bilbao (GAME ANALYSIS)

Hikaru Nakamura starts with a fabulous game against World Champion Magnus Carlsen in the opening round in Bilbao. He played a Scicilian Defence against which Carlsen started with unusual 2.Ne2 line . However , earlier Carlsen has played this in his career .
35...e5!!
This is a fabulous breakthrough . Nakamura had many chances to push the game to endgame with a pawn up or slight edge at many occasions,he avoided that . Nakamura concentrated on the fact that Carlsen being an endgame expert may escape from losing the game even if he gets a small chance .
The idea of 35...e5 !! is bringing the rook to g6 making it worse for white King.
Carlsen replied ...

36.Qg3 Rg6 37.Kh2 e*f4
38.Q*f4 Qh5+ 39.Kg1 Qd1
40.Kh2 Qh5+ 41.Kg1 N*g5
42.Qb8+ Kg7 43.Qe5+ Kh6
44.Qf4 Qd1+ 45.Kh2 Qd4
46.b4 Kg7 47.Qc7+ Kh8
48.Qc8+ Rg8 49.Q*f5 Nf3+
50.Kh3 Qd6 0-1

Please find a better move other than Qd6 which can mate white King in next 5 moves !!

Trap your opponent -Part 1(Basic)

Chess is a tricky sport in beginner level . The players anticipate the oponent to be checkmate with minimum moves . Let us go through those obsolete tricks .

Fools Mate -

1.f4 e6 2.g4
2...Qh4#

Scholar's mate -
1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Nc6 3. Qf3 Bc5??

4.Q*f7#

In the above two games the players who won have done nothing great other than the fact that there oponent have never noticed the one move mating threat . In real tournaments or playing against serious Chess players ,these variations are worthless as your opponent will easily identify the threat and defend them !!

Sultan Khan -The Indian Hero

Sulthaan Khan was one among the strongest players in the World who played for very short span of five years . He belonged to Punjab province in India during British rule . He was servent to Colonel Nawab who took him to play Chess in Europe . During the era he played with the strongest players of the Chess World . He had winning games against the Great Jose Raul Capablanca, Max Euwe , Tartakower .
He has a famous game played against Rubenstein which ended up in a draw .
His game against JR Capablanca is considered to be a sheer masterclass of Chess dynamics !

The move a3 played (in the above pic) is one among the most discussed move which is used to avoid Nimzo Indian Defence ideas .

In this position which occurred in continuation of the above Capablanca
game ,Capablanca played his rook to c2+ just now and Mir Sulthaan Khan captured the double rooks by his Queen . Q*c2 R*c2 K*c2 . The idea of this continuation was to double the white rooks on c file and getting a passed pawn on queen side . Capablanca was unable to defend Sultan's idea and lost the game on 65th move . I am not mentioning the game or its move in this article because these positions speak the depth of Sultan's strategies. An anoted game can be better taken from books and database .
Mir Sultan Khan was a prodigy whose games would have brought greater excitement to Modern Chess . He is a victim of slavery and colonial system in history . He himself might have never thought to become a World Champion !!

Magnus Carlsen slips from Rank No.1

It was a big surprise when July 16 Blitz rating was published . Ding Liren of China is new World No.1 in Blitz Chess . The interesting part is that Ding Liren didn't play any Blitz Chess in last month and even without any rating hike he became World No.1 with 2875 elo. On the other hand Magnus Carlsen lost 42 elo and finished 2 points behind Ding Liren at 2873 elo . Hikaru Nakamura of USA also lost his elo in Blitz to finish at 2842 . Earlier Nakamura was on 2883 which was helpful for Ding Liren to become World No.1 in Blitz Chess.

Carlsen is expected to start his World Championship Preparations

It is said that Carlsen is bit more serious about upcoming World Championship Match to be held in US in November . It may be because in previous two World Championships in which he played against Vishy Anand ,the openings were almost familiar for both . But against Karjakin he has different opening strategies . Carlsen has played French Defence as black against Karjakin in previous encounters ,whereas against Anand he would have never even thought to play it. On the other hand as white there is a possibility of Karjakin troubling Carlsen with Queens Indian Defence which is highly strategical and requires more time to analyse . Last two World Championship s between Anand and Carlsen had many Ruy Lopez variations whereas this time it could be very rare . However Carlsen s opening preparation s are expected to be simply to aquire equality with black, as with white pieces he has upper hand of playing many type of openings at its best . He is an expert over 1d4 or 1.e4 or 1. c4 or even 1.Nf3 .

Black to play

Magnus Carlsen played London System with white side and Karjakin crushes his ideas in Blitz game . Karjakin played 1...Re6 after which game ended in favour of black .
The possible continuation is 2.Nc7 Rc6 ! after which white loses knight and following mate threat by putting the rook at 1st rank !!
